Even away from the daily commute, life in the city is often not an oasis of peace and well-being. Exhaust fumes, noise, 24/7 hustle and bustle as well as the sheer mass of people you encounter day in and day out are tiring for body and mind at some point, even if you may not notice it immediately in your daily routine.
In summer, overcrowded lakes on the outskirts of cities or crowded outdoor swimming pools rarely offer lasting refreshment or even relaxation. Moreover, although more and more cities are making an effort to maintain sufficient green spaces and parks, it is not really possible to escape the noise and crowds of the big city simply because of the proximity to the action: the permanent background noise of the nearest traffic artery or the honking of horns by stressed drivers become constant companions.

Cycling in general is not without reason one of Europe's favourite sports and, no matter if you live in the countryside or in the city, it brings many advantages. But especially for people in urban areas, small trips on a bike are particularly valuable for many reasons:
Cycling makes you happy
Scientific studies have shown that your body starts to release happiness hormones after just 30 minutes of cycling. When you pedal, not only do you get a workout, but also the production of endorphins in your brain. Best conditions to leave the stress of the city behind and ride towards the sun with a big smile on your face, right?

Cycling makes you more relaxed and calm
The smooth cranking and the quiet gliding over the asphalt slow down the carousel of thoughts in your head and ensure that you can really switch off. Almost meditatively, your bike offers you a valuable opportunity to detach from your everyday life and leave your daily worries behind, at least for a while.

Cycling gives you freedom
With your bike you are more flexible and independent than with any other vehicle. No traffic jams, no delays, no searching for a parking space - your bike leaves the lines of cars and overcrowded public transport to the left and gets you to your next appointment on time.
And since more and more cities have recognised the need for a well-developed cycling infrastructure, there are now numerous so-called cycle lanes where you have priority over motorised traffic on your bike and thus get to your destination faster.

With your bike you can go on rides that would not be possible by public transport, by car or on foot
Take a rough direction, gather impressions, let yourself drift - choose surprising turns without knowing exactly where they lead. This is how you discover new places, new favourite paths and little shortcuts through your city and make it even more your own.

You improve the environmental conditions in your city
The more people are on their bikes in the city, the less the environment and nature are polluted by emissions such as exhaust fumes or noise. Imagine how much more relaxed it would be if cars didn't line up next to each other in the city, but rather bicycles next to bicycles. It is particularly worth taking a look at our Dutch neighbours, where two-wheelers are much more popular as a means of transport and living conditions are therefore often much more pleasant, even in large cities.
So, have we whetted your appetite for cycling in the city?

Have you already discovered the advantages of cycling in the city? Will you go exploring by bike in the future or just go for another ride after a busy day? I wish you lots of fun.
